estebandido | 17 April 2008

OOXML approved: (

estebandido | 2 April 2008

I join to this post posted on the website of Rafael Bonifaz

-----

Before iso make the official announcement, both Microsoft and ECMA issued its press release announcing the victory of OOXML over reason.

By unofficial Open Malasya Blog , the following list of countries that voted apparently not OOXML.

  • Canada
  • China
  • Ecuador
  • India
  • Iran
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • Brazil
  • Cuba

According to the site of openxml.info in several countries there are several cases of irregularities. One of the most notable is the case in which Norway changed their vote from no to yes, despite that 80% of the committee was against this decision. The reactions to this were immediate and the director of the technical committee has made a public protest on the subject.

I think this story is far from over. People from the community of free software in Latin America, we must look to use ODF as a national standard OOXML before spreading too fast.

Before ending this post I want to thank Microsoft for giving me the opportunity to meet people as smart and capable as I have known in this process. Today I have friends all over the world who think in a way similar to mine and that together we can do great things. This was already demonstrated in September when we beat Microsoft and OOXML. This time we lost the battle, but we managed to form a community pro global open standards. Thanks Microsoft for this gift.

And as this video says " Microsoft we love "
