If time passed 30 +1

estebandido | 1 October 2009

And the time to cross the barrier of the 30's came.

It's been a long way since celebrating my 30's last year in South Korea . Today, again in Ecuador, in the haughty and Sovereign Nation, celebrating this birthday with my loved ones, although some in the distance but I know that with me.

Very interesting all this year knowing that you are in the age where everyone will look more seriously, although I say that I can still pass for 26 or 27, but hey that's why I'm well preserved.

These 365 days have been great. finished my Master , I competed in many races and I improved a lot my time, but also had injured some months, but the best thing this year was to share with my Father his lifelong dream of reaching the Great Wall of China (soon will place the photos on Flickr), and because not only were there but we got to the roof of the world Tibet , at Phi-Phi Islands and Angkor Wat , it was great to re-meet in this time the two and know that we are not just father and son, but also friends and that all dreams are achievable in this life.

Million thanks to the sms, calls, emails, tweets and FB posts from around the world (seriously, I too was surprised). With friends like you for more, and for those who still have not still have time for the day is still long.

I share with you the official photo of my 31st birthday, not that it is an angel, but I think I do well this costume or not?

What else should you do to appear in the media?

estebandido | 4 May 2009

Read newspapers online has become part of daily routine in the middle of my coffee before heading out to college. I review several newspapers, both of Cuenca as Quito and Guayaquil, and well I think with this distance I can have a pretty good idea of what happens in my country.

Recently I was more aware than ever, especially in the sports, for news of the races of the Cruces Basin . For obvious reasons the local media coverage given to it, but national media truth nothing comes out, just for them traditional 3 races in this country do not exist, 45 years Las Cruces Circuit , Circuit 42 years Boroto Richard Child , and 11 years of race walking Luis Chocho .

I wonder what should make Cuenca to be shown on these national media?, Or do anything, if not in Quito or Guayaquil skills do not matter.

As an athlete I can say that when we learned of racing, is through "word of mouth" and if we see a competition in another province, is because they show the results of what had been the day before, on a small note lost in the paper.

Eye is not only events of this type, a few days ago was the same with Deportivo Cuenca. Although I am a fan of Cruz del Vado , which is in the second category, I was happy to know that the D. Basin achieved a historic step in the Libertadores, and for truth in media Basin was published this, but for the mass media both Quito and Guayaquil as tv, truth was no great feat, and it was as it happened, point.

Again I ask, is that just like bad news from the provinces to publish?, Is that perhaps rank next round of the liberators is not so great, or have a career for 45 years and have been the hotbed of the most great distance runners of the country is not enough?.

Both the D. Basin as the Circle Cross Vado are traditional clubs in the heart of Cuenca, and do great things not only for the city but across the country, or perhaps there is also jealousy and regionalism in the media? or just remember the Cuenca, when they become champions and win medals?

I sincerely hope not.

History of the meeting of Stallman and Correa (2 years)

estebandido | 12 December 2008

Today marks 2 years of the meeting between Rafael Correa and Richard Stallman , why Rafael Bonifaz and I have decided to write about how this event happened. Here you can read the version of Rafael on history.

Free software is state policy

During the election campaign of 2006, I worked one day receive mail the following message:

--- Forwarded message ----
From: Rafael Bonifaz
Date: October 4, 2006 11:53
Subject: Free Software
To: Rafael Correa

Dear Rafael,

My name is Rafael Bonifaz and I am a Systems Engineer. Currently in addition to my professional work I am active in free software communities of Ecuador. In this country little is spoken on the subject, but countries like Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, parts of Spain and Europe are moving to the use of Free Software. To win you the election, propose a plan regarding the use of free software in the state?

To cite one example, now the municipality of Quito should pay IBM a value close to $ 200 000 per year for the use of your email server and that the mayor can share your calendar with the councilors. We can offer a similar solution, with some software development and use of free software for a cost of nearly $ 20 000 for a single time. Hence, the municipality can hire us to support us or any other company that knows the subject. Do not stay locked to us.

With $ 200 000 a year can do more for the benefit of the community rather than pay a fee for use of computers. This is only a servant of a municipality. Imagine the cost of all licenses of windows, office and other programs used by the state. How could we save by using free software and the money spent would stay in training national professionals, instead of paying multinationals.

Sincerely,

Rafael Bonifaz

PD. The main community of free software in Ecuador is:
www.ecualug.org

One person who was responsible for reviewing the emails told me and what I do with this?, I read the message and said, give it to me I answer.

12 years out of Cuenca

estebandido | 22 August 2008

A night of August 21, 1996 I went to Cuenca to the capital , just knew it was going to study , which was a morlaco in search of victory.

In my head just thinking about what might happen there, all the new things he would see and learn everything again inside me just waiting to pass the time (4 years) to return to my family, my Cuenca , my Vado , my friends , but everything changed, the circumstances of life have led me in other directions and destinations.

They are 12 years out of those I love most: my parents and my grandmother.

And today in the distance, more than ever, I have in mind the words that my Father and my Mother told us last year in its 30 anniversary, "it is difficult to see them go whenever you are on our side, but we gave them wings to fly, fly so high ... "

So, they gave me wings to fly, and I'm doing, thanks mom and dad :)

I love you

Stephen

Itaewon neighborhood of foreigners

estebandido | 4 August 2008

If you've been in the United Estates, the jony, just in New York, you know that there are several places where people from other countries come together, as in the case of Little Italy for Italians, China Town for Chinese, Flushing for Ecuadorians and the Roosevelt for all Latinos

In the Roosevelt can find everything you need in your country, in the case of the Ecuadorian male soap, Quaker Oats, Zhumir, Chicken Gus, manicho, including one million more.

Well here in Seoul, there is also a similar place called Itaewon . Here people of all countries to attend, you can find food from different countries, food, cell phones and feel a little closer to home. The stores are more focused on foreigners and everyone speaks English, which does not happen in the other businesses in Seoul.
