Backpacking in Asia 101

estebandido | 12 July 2009

Yes, it is the truth I've been writing on the blog lately not as often, but not for not wanting to, from late June in Seoul I have visitors, so I walked with them everywhere and in turn also began our journey we've been planning for months.

So good I now have time to like this going on our trip and everything that happens on this side of the world.

Background to the trip
During this time in Korea have traveled parts of the country, but always had in mind to take a trip to neighboring countries, in addition my dad always had in mind to visit China and get to fulfill his dream of stepping on the Wall of China, and between conversation and conversation came my cousin Freddy and also joined the group of potential travelers, further more people wanted to come but in the end only my dad and Fredy confirmed the trip.

This trip we have been planning for several months, including e-mails, skype, chat, etc, but hey, little by little it started to take shape and the trip was planned.

The odyssey through Asia would be a month, visiting several countries and the most representative, in some guides, and other backpackers.

The route chosen was Seoul, Beijing, Tibet (Lhasa, Shigatse), Xian, Shanghai, Bangkok, Cambodia and Seoul again.

As you can see is a long road trip for a month, but something interesting at a time.

Travelers
Our team is comprised of Pepe adventures Mendieta (60), Fredy Mendieta (40) and Esteban Mendieta Jara (30).

I guess you could say that this group is an off-road equipment and although the first two are well urbanites, are no trouble for anything besides that from the beginning it was clear the way of our journey.

The acclimatization
Coming from Ecuador to Asia is very hard, not only for the hours of travel, but by the time change (14 hours apart), food, language, culture, etc, so to avoid any mishap on the trip came one week in advance to get ready.

The schedule change will not affect the truth at all, although the first day slept all afternoon and evening.

In these early days the food was one of the hardest parts, soups that are almost nothing for my spicy mourn them made by little, so we had to go a little bit acclimated to hot.

The stay in the hostel was also very interesting, because as a backpackers hostel, all services are shared, but really did not mess anything, and even made many friends in the hostel.

After this intensive class 101 backpackers were ready for the journey.

In the next installment, the first days in Beijing.

Tips
In each of the following posts give you some tips for future backpacking trip or travelers who want to go through these lands.

In Seoul you can find several guest house, or hostel for backpackers, one of them is the Golden Pond a house very well located, economical, very clean, internet, laundry, kitchen, satellite TV, etc..

For the trip I recommend carrying a small laptop with long battery if you have a good 10 inches, is light and will take up less space on the trip.
