Free Software in Ecuador Act 1014

Estebandido | 11 April 2008

Yesterday, Thursday 10 April 2008 Ecuador's President Rafael Correa Delgado signed the 1014 decree to which the Free Software becomes a state policy to be adopted by all entities.

This was a big step for the Ecuadorian community of Free Software as President a year ago through a video declared as state policy the use of it. Today it is a reality.

Not only the citizen's revolution is underway, but also the technological revolution.

The decree can be downloaded from here.

Stephen, congratulations on the change that will occur in the field of computer tools.

Who will support and migration to new systems? "Red hat?

Is there already some competition to launch the migration? That Ministry will be the first?

Do not forget that like everything else, the paper says nothing more than an intention, the decree does not have a deadline. Tighten the nuts to be pulling the thing!

Orlando Marcelo | 12 April 2008

Dear friends of Ecuador, I'm from Argentina and I can only congratulate you on what I consider a progress grandisimo for the progress of his country (and why not all of Latin America).

On the other hand, let me say that I feel a healthy envy as Argentine citizen, to see how Latin American sister nations (Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela) progress in achieving technological independence and local technology development promotion from free and open software, while here in Argentina seem to recede at a rapid pace (steps backwards, unfortunately):

http://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/ultimas/20-101874-2008-04-04.html (closed Scioli - Bill Gates)

It only remains to us, follow the example of you and other government agencies around the world (Munich, Extremadura, India, etc, etc, etc) that have been able to overcome the great economic interests and work towards the good of the citizens of the country, which should always be the normal course of any government decision.

Congratulations and congratulations Rafael Esteban, who work hard to Ecuador, the two countries the likes of India, Canada, China and New Zealand and 14 other countries express a categorical rejection of the devaluation of the standards (and I mean the infamous fast-track OOXML (Office Open XML)).

A greeting!
