Free Software in Ecuador Decree 1014

estebandido | 11 April 2008

Yesterday, Thursday April 10, 2008, the President of Ecuador Rafael Correa Delgado signed a decree 1014, in which the Free Software becomes a state policy to be adopted by all entities.

This has been a big step for the Ecuadorian community of Free Software as President a year ago through a video declared as state policy the use of it. It is now a reality.

Not only the citizens' revolution is underway, but also the technological revolution.

The decree can be downloaded from here .

FOSS Forward, forward!

Stephen, congratulations on the change that will in terms of tools.

Who will support and migration to new systems? "Red hat?

Are there already some competition to launch the migration? That Ministry will be the first?

Do not forget that like everything else, the paper says nothing more than an intention, the decree does not have a deadline. Tighten the nuts to be pulling the thing!

Orlando Marcelo | 12 April 2008

Dear friends of Ecuador, I'm from Argentina and I can only congratulate you on what I consider a very great step forward for the progress of his country (and why not, in any mix).

On the other hand, let me say that I feel a healthy envy as a citizen of Argentina, to see how Latin American brothers countries (Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela) progress in achieving technological independence and promotion of local technological development from free and open software, while here in Argentina seem to recede at a rapid pace (steps backwards, unfortunately):

http://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/ultimas/20-101874-2008-04-04.html (private meeting Scioli - Bill Gates)

Only remains for us, follow the example of you and other government entities worldwide (Munich, Extremadura, India, etc, etc, etc) have been able to overcome major economic interests and work toward the good of citizens of the country, which should always be the normal course of any government decision.

Congratulations and congratulations Rafael Esteban, who you worked hard for Ecuador, the two countries the likes of India, Canada, China and New Zealand and 14 more countries express a categorical rejection of the devaluation of the standards (and I mean the infamous fast-track OOXML (Office Open XML)).

Greetings!

Marcelo Orlando

Congratulations on the good news, we are already publishing on our site also. Hopefully soon follow the example of other Latin American countries that still have pending state policies on these issues.

Personally welcome the adoption arguments contained in the decree.
