Tips for travel to Korea

estebandido | 29 July 2008

Well after a month, I have thought proper to write a few small suggestions or tips for future students coming to Korea.

This is written based on my experience of being a first month here, if in the coming months I think it deserves an update I will.

  1. Passport Photos: In many places you ask for them, and in my case in Ecuador are cheaper photos, so I recommend you bring passport photos.
  2. Application for multiple entry: When I did get a visa for one entry to Korea, but here in the immigration office make the change without problems, so you use? because you used when you want to go visit other countries you do not re-enter Korea problem.
  3. Change money at the airport: From what I've seen so far, at the airport change is higher than banks in Seoul, so it may recommend that you change your money at the airport, change when the eye was high there, and banks is lower, now do not know.
  4. Deodorants: If, as you listen, here there is no deodorant at all stores, what Koreans have told me because of the food and your body does not use them, so well told in the shops are, but that if a price 10 to 15 USD, so I recommend that you bring from home, so bring the ones you like because there is no choice here.
  5. Umbrella: This time of year between July and August it rains enough so where you go you have to take an umbrella, so if you have one small and do not bother to bring him the trip, but here you can find umbrellas from 5 USD.
  6. Waterproof Backpack: As you read in the previous rains all the time here, so better if your day pack is waterproof, you'll thank me the truth.
  7. Mobile: When I said that I need a cell here?, If anyone knows me, well then I will help as you need to talk with peers and teachers, etc.. So you can buy second-hand here with no problem. Eye CDMA phones are here so if yours is GSM leave it at home.
  8. Voltage: The voltage in Korea is 220, so check your electronics before bringing them here, you can also bring about eye connectors, but if you find them here at a price of $ 3 each.
  9. Mosquito repellent: Mosquitoes do not let up anywhere, so for these months bring mosquito repellent, and go two nights I can not sleep for his trouble.
  10. Jet Lag: Or better known as the evil of the time change. The time difference with Ecuador in this case is 14 hours ahead, I mean in Korea starting on Monday (6:00) and recently Ecuador ends on Sunday (16h00). So when you get here will be one of the things that affect you so I suggest that the day after your arrival, you exercise in the morning, at least a week so that your heart is adapted to change, I found this on the wiki and applied it and it worked, and takes too much water during the early days.
  11. First time: If you go home for the first time to study a short course of 101 basic kitchen suit you, as well as washing and grooming the fourth 101.
  12. Laptop: I think it's necessary to use a personal computer, so it's best if you bring him, as if there cheap laptops here, but the problem is that not all locals speak English, so unless you know and understand about laptops can risk, as well as the operating system is in Korean.
  13. Communication with home: I suggest that before you leave home with your family, girlfriend, friends, company, etc. teach them to use Skype and chat programs are a great communication tool, also if you have Skype calls will stay free Internet, much better if they have broadband at home, and also a video camera.
